Goofs Adolf Hitler did not beat his dog out of frustration at the trenches, the dog was actually a beloved pet who Hitler called a 'Proper circus dog'.

Alternate versions Network Seven, in Australia originally aired this as a two part mini series. User reviews Review. Top review. Easy-to-swallow warning for mass-behavior. Being a fanatical semi-professional historian on WW2, and utterly fascinated by Hitler's third Reich and all it's military power, I could hardly wait for "Hitler; the rise of evil" to come out after having seen the theatrical trailer.

Heavens, I never felt so completely confused about a movie after pushing the 'stop' button on my DVD-player's remote. I simply couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. First of all, the performances set by Carlyle and companions are quite good.

Compare a real recording of a Hitler-speech with one of Carlyle's speech-scene's and you'll see what I mean. Then comes the Historical accuracy. Not quite bad, but I kept noticing small things which obviously were incorrect.

Well, I can assure you this: He absolutely had his periods of mental disturbances and ignoring the truth, especially toward the war's end. But this I have read many, many eye-witness reports from people who lived in his presence, like Albert Speer. They all agreed on some things, namely the facts Adolf Hitler was very often a think full, correct, funny, honorable man. Hitler was the mastermind behind the Nazi's criminal and appalling Holocaust.

Hitler was a criminal. A kind of person that can never be allowed to rise to power again. This is obviously the reason why the director choose to show him the way he did. However, Hitler was dangerous not because he was a monster, he was dangerous because he was so intelligent, so well-spoken. Because he was worshipped by so many, because he knew what to say to 'his' people. That was the real danger, and that's exactly what we must teach. Think of it this way: The most successful murderers and big criminals are usually the smart, well-spoken and socially established men.

You wouldn't know he is a monster until you see what he has done. But obviously they chose to show the audience Hitler changed from a normal person into a monster. Talking about stereotypes and negligence of the truth. Overall I still found it an enjoyable movie which does achieve one of it's main goals: portraying us, the crowd, as willing sheep, especially in times of need. Ye be warned. Rating: 6. After awhile you get to see a different day every now and then, and every time more and more inmates cheer him from behind their bars overlooking the yard.

Details Edit. Release date May 18, United States. Canada United States. Marx was a raging antisemite and the reason hitlers antisemitism picked up in germany is because they had been teaching it in school for decades. The guy in the video also suggests you dont read Mein Kampf! Hitler was a socialist, his socialism reich i. This programme has some merit as an attempt to understand Hitler as a human being, rather than a demonic entity.

In the 's, this can perhaps serve as a cautionary tale, given the rise of nationalism and demagoguery. The contributions from Dr. Lisa Pine and the overall framing by the Director, Danielle Winter, certainly support this attempt. However, the attempt is undermined by the presence of the other talking head, Guy Walters, who doesn't contribute anything that he couldn't have learned from other video programmes; and it feels more like he is auditioning for a promotion as a TV historian, rather than providing any thoughtful analysis.

Where Dr. Pine provides context and analysis for Hitler's rise to power, Walters feels more like a voyeur, revelling in the most macabre aspects of Nazi policy. Two stars because it is a worthy attempt to try and demystify Hitler the person; would have given it three stars if Guy Walters wasn't in it. The two 'experts' seem to have a superficial grasp of the period. The images are very out of order. We see Hitler's famous Kroll Opera House speech when the 'experts' are talking about Hitler's actions immediately after being released from Lansberg Prison.

This is a documentary which vastly over simplifies the topic. For reasons that are hard to understand, the narrator repeats the experts and tries to be over dramatic at all the wrong points he has the sort of voice i'd expect to hear on a hollywood blockbuster advert. Charlton Heston he is not. It becomes tedious very quickly. Importantly the main facts ARE correct.

Please don't follow the recommendations in the comments section, which will lead you to revisionist history nice way of saying lies. This may be a terrible documentary, but that doesn't mean its worth listening to lies just to watch one that's more entertaining.

All are old now, they mostly pre-date the internet. But they were very well researched and presented by experts. Most importantly..
