In , I got a bootleg version of Pokemon LeafGreen which I assume is just translated badly from japanese to english as a Christmas present. I also got Ruby and Sapphire to comtemplate my Emerald. However, something is bugging me. Whenever I try to save on LeafGreen, about 5 seconds into the "Saving Don't turn off the power" message, the music cuts off suddenly for about 4 seconds before resuming, and then it states that the game saved successfully.
I was playing it in my DS, so I got out Sapphire, and it became apparent that it also has the same problem as LeafGreen. Then Ruby - same problem. By then, I found that the games weren't fitting into the slot correctly, and fingers crossed, I tried saving, but still no luck; the same thing happened. However, when I try to load the save file, it says "The previous save file will be loaded. The game can be played. They are new copies of the game as well; they weren't used, I bought them fresh.

However, the time-based events didn't work right after replacing the battery with no VBA influence at all either.
So even if I say that I just need to not use VBA at all, I still need a way to make the game re-enable time-based events as it won't do it on its own.
